The Basic Single Card Shipping Setup
For raw cards graded NM-M or better, you need:
- Penny sleeve — slides over the card first to prevent scratches
- Top loader — rigid plastic sleeve that prevents bending. For standard cards, use a 3x4 inch top loader
- Team bag — tape the top loader shut to keep it from sliding out
- Corner guards — apply to each corner of the top loader before inserting into the mailer. Our 200-pack corner guards give you 50 complete setups
- Shell mailer envelope — rigid cardboard that prevents the whole package from folding. Our 100-pack shell mailers are sized perfectly for this setup
For Higher-Value Cards ($50+)
Add a bubble mailer around the shell mailer for extra cushioning. For cards over $100, consider shipping with USPS Priority Mail with tracking and signature confirmation.
For Bulk Lots (10+ cards)
Stack cards in a top loader or card saver, rubber band lightly, wrap in bubble wrap, and ship in a small padded box. Include a cardboard spacer on each side of the stack.
Common Mistakes That Lead to Damage Claims
- ❌ Skipping the corner guards — corners are the most vulnerable part during USPS handling
- ❌ Using envelopes without rigid backing — letter mail gets bent by sorting machines
- ❌ Overfilling packages — cards buckle under pressure from tight packaging
- ❌ Writing directly on the mailer — ball point pen pressure can transfer to cards
